What this site is

Personal reviews of consumer keyboards, based on boards bought at retail and tested by one person. The measurements, scores and opinions here are exactly that: one person’s findings on one set of units, in one room, with one setup.

Unit variation is real

This matters more on budget keyboards than on expensive ones. Quality control at this price varies between production batches, and a board that arrived with clean stabilisers may not be the board you receive. Where a review notes a fault, treat it as “this happened on my unit” rather than “this happens on every unit” — and where a review notes something is fine, the same caveat applies in reverse.

Measurements are comparative

Sound is measured at a fixed distance in an untreated room. Latency is measured with a photodiode against a high-frame-rate capture. These figures are useful for comparing boards on this site against each other, which is what they exist for. They are not laboratory measurements and should not be quoted as absolute values or compared directly against figures taken by someone else with a different setup.

Prices

Every price carries the date it was checked and is flagged when it goes stale. Prices change without notice, differ by region, and the figure here may be wrong by the time you read it. Always check the retailer.

Some links earn a commission. This is described in full on the disclosure page, which also explains why a commission cannot affect a score or a ranking.

Modifications and warranties

Several reviews describe modifications — re-lubing stabilisers, opening cases, changing switches. Doing any of that to your own keyboard may void its warranty and is done at your own risk. Where a review scores a board as shipped, it says so.

Text, photographs, measurements and diagrams on this site are original work and are protected by copyright. Quoting a short passage with a link is fine and welcome. Reproducing reviews or measurement tables wholesale is not.
